MP WELCOMES COUNCIL DECISION ON FORMER SCHOOL SITE
Brentwood and Ongar Member of Parliament, Mr Eric Pickles, has welcomed a decision by Brentwood Borough Council to refuse planning permission for a residential home and cr?che on the site of the former Pilgrims Hatch Infant School in Larchwood Gardens, Pilgrims Hatch.
Mr Pickles said: ?The decision to refuse planning permission for this development is one which I welcome not just because of the strong opposition to the proposal among local residents but also because the support services are not in place to provide the necessary levels of care for the 114 elderly residents who would be living at the proposed residential home.
?We know that our GPs are already very badly stretched with far higher patient lists than is recommended and adding such a large number of dependent elderly people in one location would be another heavy burden on a service which is already overstretched.
?I am pleased this decision has been taken by Brentwood Borough Council and hope the applicants will now enter in to negotiations rather than trying to fight this decision on appeal.?
